OIC recognized the importance of education among the Somali people and pondered into the many years suffering of both manmade and natural disasters and thoughtfully considered the plight of children and their parents. The new generation missed out a previous time, and through copying mechanisms education went on despite the odds. OIC reflected on these trends and decided to have an education program where school children and out-of-school children and youth in the districts of Somalia get quality education.

OIC therefore looks at 2014 and beyond as years to attract education donors and to reaffirm that if they work closely together, harmonizing approaches to supporting Somalia education system

Educational projects undertaken during the time focused mainly on the rebuilding schools tendered in by the Ministry of Education. Most of these education projects were opened and handed over to the ministry by OIC. The ceremonies were presided over by high ranking dignitaries who included the Prime Minister, government officials, diplomats and the United Nations. The laying the foundation attended by the Ministers for Yasin Osman school was very significant. The ministers gave however noted the enormous contributions from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. OIC on its part registered the following results:

  • Reviewed the specifications and standards required for new schools
  • Increased community participation through mobilization trainings in communities, it was learned that community were motivated to participate in their schools.
  • Teacher trainings emphasized more on the child-centered approach is especially relevant in the local Somalia context.
  • School construction was dominant as it gave the chance got the poor to have good classrooms in which they attend their lessons.
